Use Tungsten Carbide Seals In Order To Provide Superior Support to Machines


Tungsten carbide is a powdered metal which consists of elements of tungsten and carbon and both of these metals are renowned for their solidity and hardness. It is used in mechanical components such as in valve trim, pump bearings, mechanical shaft seals etc. Tungsten carbide provides compressive strength, wear resistance, toughness, and erosion resistance to machines.
Silicon Carbide Seal
Tungsten carbide seal has many advantages such as it is cheap, resilient and heat resistance. Many times it has been used as an alternative to diamond and can be used in different types of jewelleries. Among its many uses within an industry, one can also use them as a cutting surface, which is very useful during the time of machining between two strong compounds such as carbon steel and stainless steel. Unlike other metals, this seal does not allow itself to common fabrication methods such as threading, welding, and bolting. This material cannot be welded or bolted. It only requires costly EDM or grinding operations to get attached with the surface of machine.
Tungsten Carbide Seal
Tungsten carbide seal has same features as that of silicon carbide seal. Both of them are versatile and very hard but tungsten carbide is very heavy in comparison to silicon carbide. Apart from this, tungsten carbide seal provides a better finish to materials and allows superior performance. It can also withstand at higher temperatures than standard materials.
The only disadvantage of this seal is that it can lead to leaching which can cause minor leakages and a large increase in the wear of opposing seal face.
